A Thorough Dental Exam for Preventative Care
A long-standing patient of Dr. Sternberg's discusses her experience. Dr. Sternberg performed a thorough dental exam and noticed that one side of her neck was different than the other. He referred her to an endocrinologist, who biopsied her thyroid and discovered several benign nodules.
Dennis Sternberg has been my dentist for many, many years, and not only does he take great care of my teeth, but he always checks my mouth for oral cancer. And in feeling my neck the last time, he said, "You know, your neck is a little thicker on one side than it was before. I really think you ought to check into it and make sure everything is okay." So I had a referral to see an endocrinologist, and I did. I had my thyroid biopsied and sure enough, I had nodules on both sides. Thankfully, there was nothing wrong. They tell me I'm normal, but that I need to keep watching it. If it weren't for Dennis Sternberg, I would not have known because I had been to my regular doctor and he didn't pick up on it. So I think it's really important that dentists check for those things, and I'm just grateful that he found that for me.
